Discs come in a wide variety of plastics. Some are better suited for certain scenarios than others, others are simply better quality and will last longer.
Every brand has their own names for the different plastic types. We’ve put this chart together as a general reference the next time you see a plastic name and want to know how it fairs!
| BASE PLASTIC | STANDARD PLASTIC | TRANSLUCENT PREMIUM PLASTIC | OPAQUE PREMIUM PLASTIC | SPECIAL EDITION |
|---|---|---|---|---|
|
P-Line (Formerly known as Pro-D/D Line) Discrafts cheapest type of plastic but still very good quality. Least durable of their range makes it great for putters. It has great grip in the hand. |
X Line Very grippy plastic, but is more prone to wear than most in this class |
Z Line Well known for it's durability. Semi-translucent, very stiff, and very resistant to wear. Generally more overstable than other plastics |
ESP Very durable plastic. This type of plastic is made to be very grippy and they all feel amazing in the hand. Often available in cool swirls. It could mean Extra Sticky Plastic but don’t quote us on that. |
Discraft has a few player designed blends.. you might have to do a bit more digging for this answer as they vary from player to player |
|
Jawbreaker Designed to be the best plastic for Putt and Approach discs. This unique marbled blend feels nice and tacky, the perfect grip for releasing putts consistently. The plastic is a medium stiffness, and features advanced polymers for good durability. |
Big Z The main difference between Z Line and Big Z is the cooler stamps they have on them but some will tell you there is a difference in flight and apparently they are supposed to be a little bit more grippy as well. |
